I’m back in action! Certainly a little sleepy after a very busy, but really great week at the Lampeter Fair! It’s really special to serve our community as a family. My parents, sister and I were featured on Fox43 news on Wednesday morning to highlight some new and classic fair foods, so that was a fun little experience!

Now that fair season is behind us, it’s time to reconvene to our “normal” schedules. On Sunday, we’ll return to two worship services (8:15, 10:30)  with Sunday School at 9:30am. This Wednesday, October 1st, will be our first Wednesday Roots Night! We’re excited to get back into the swings with that ministry too! Here’s how the schedule of the night works…

  • 5:45pm: Prayer and Family Dinner in the FLC
  • 6:20pm: Dismissal to Lil’ and Youth Roots Check-In
  • 6:30pm: Age-Specific Discipleship Groups
    • Lil’ Roots, Kid’s Wing
    • Bridge Roots (4th-6th), Room 204
    • Youth Roots, Youth Wing
    • Adult Bible Study: 1 Peter, Room 014
    • Women’s Bible Study: Stories from the Wilderness, Room 210 (tentatively)
  • 7:30pm: Dismissal & Adult Choir

Our Lil’ Roots and Bridge Roots will be starting the fall with a study on the Trinity. Youth

Roots Boys are doing a series of “tailgate talks” on Kingdom Character; they’ll be hearing from a handful of our men as they share their experiences on possessing characteristics that Jesus models for us. The Youth Roots Girls are working through a mentoring curriculum called “More Precious Than Pearls” where they’ll be partnered up with an adult in our church family and converse about life as a Christian Woman.

There’s always opportunities to serve on Wednesday Roots Nights. If you’re looking for a way to get involved, whether teaching, assisting, organizing, cooking or caring for others, reach out!

In case you missed it the other week, I started a podcast! It’s live and new episodes will drop each Wednesday, for now, as a take-home discipleship tool for families and spiritual parents. You can listen to and follow along with “The Dig” on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or this website. The podcast is designed to help deepen learning from the week prior, build excitement for the learning that will take place during the upcoming time together and grow ALL disciples! Give it a listen!

Take time to review your church bulletin, there are several upcoming events for all in the month of October! I am prayerful that we will enter into the fall season of ministry Spirit-led and surrendered to what God has for each of us!

What I’M Learning This Week: Sharing what I’m reading and listening to lately

I stumbled upon this while looking for the link I wanted to share in my “something to follow” section below. Much of the content on this authors page is related to motherhood and though that is not yet my reality, I resonated with the beauty and articulation of her words. But on this post-fair Monday, I was drawn to the post with the title “A Liturgy for: To-Do Lists,” as mine on my desk is growing increasingly longer as the morning goes on.

She starts the post by recalling the story of Mary and Martha, a favorite of mine. A version of it hangs above my desk at home. I see much of me in Martha and ache for more of Mary in myself. (I also love it because my Grandma, who I admire deeply, is named Martha and her twin sister is named Mary!) Here’s what she says before she shares her sweetly written “liturgy for to-do lists…”

“The application of this story is not to abandon our to-do lists. It’s not to pass the day reading our Bibles and neglecting our responsibilities. The account of Martha and Mary is meant to lead us to ask: What is my heart ultimately set on? Do I prioritize being with Jesus or accomplishing my tasks? Am I seeking out Jesus’s presence or the approval of others?”

Read, and pray as you need, the “Liturgy for: To-Do Lists.”
