We had a great Wednesday night Roots night this week. There was a great spirit and lots of energy as we gathered together. After a great meal, the little Roots were learning about the omnipotence (all-powerful) nature of God. The adult bible study was digging deeper into God’s word on kindness and the evening concluded with a great time of worship in the sanctuary. My thanks to the many volunteers who make Roots night happen and our next one will be November 4. That evening we will be engaging in any every generation service project.
Ruth was to see her foot doctor this week and things have seemed to finally turned the corner. Her inflammation has greatly improved, and she can now walk, drive, and wear shoes other than sneakers. Ruth continues to volunteer at New Hope Thrift store in Quarryville as well as serving on the board at the library. Tomorrow Ruth and I will be volunteering at the Library for their chicken BBQ/yard sale from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm.
The weather this week was wonderful, and I am sure the farmers are taking advantage of that in the midst of harvest season. The corn behind our home was harvested this week so our view to the east has been restored. The weather looks good for our hike this Sunday at 2:00 pm. The three-mile hike is for everyone and is fairly level. We are meeting at the Giant at the Buck to carpool to the location because of limited parking.
This will be a busy Sunday as we will be considering the virtue of faithfulness in our Believe series. We will also pray over our BDM team in the 8:15 service as they will depart the following Sunday. Also, don’t forget the youth are serving their Turkey Dinner as a fundraiser with the first seating at 11:00 am and the second seating approximately 11:45. Please consider attending the Turkey Dinner and supporting our youth this Sunday.
The Book Club met this week, the hiking group is meeting on Sunday, and next week the Women’s Fellowship has a Thursday evening social. The signup sheet is still in the gathering area. Men’s Work met on Monday evening this week and is looking to engage more men in this ministry. You will hear more about our Men’s ministry in the coming weeks.
I was able to visit Carolyn Wenger this week. I learned that Meg Axe’s surgery went well. We learned early in the week that Emma Dubble was hospitalized but was saddened to learn of her passing early Wednesday morning. Her service will be on Wednesday at 11:00 am with visitation from 10:00 to the start of the service. A meal will follow the service.
Ruth and I left for Harrisburg late yesterday. We participated with our daughters in a Trunk or Treat for our daughter and son-in-law’s church last night and tonight we will do the same for our daughter Molly’s church. We will be back first thing tomorrow to help at the library.
In my prayer time this week, I found myself just praying over, and over, prayers of thanksgiving. With the message on kindness resonating with me this week, I find that thanksgiving and kindness are often linked. The more I am thankful, the more I will seek to be kind. Paul writes in 1 Thessalonians 5:15-18: “Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong but always try to be kind to each other and to everyone else. Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” Paul links being kind to joyfulness, prayer and thanksgiving. As we approach the season of thanksgiving, my prayer is that we indeed will be thankful but also grow in our expression of kindness to each other.
Well, a beautiful weekend is before, the last weekend before the dreaded time change. So, enjoy the beauty of the fall season and continue to seek ways to be kind. Let’s plan to worship together on Sunday as we consider the virtue of faithfulness and celebrate the faithfulness of our amazing God. Remember, it is Friday…but Sunday’s coming!
