What a sunny, fall Monday we are sharing! I must say, I was quite sad when I had to dig out my ice scraper last Friday to clean the frost off my windshield! You know me, the longer we can hold off winter, the better!

We’re gearing up, believe it or not, for the Advent season around here. We’ve been spending some time discussing the Christmas Eve service and organizing the Advent curriculum. We’re also working out the plans for our upcoming Every Generation Sunday, which will be on the first Sunday of Advent! Despite my earlier opinions about the soon (probably too soon!) arrival of Winter, I am looking forward to the Advent preparations that we are putting together for our church family.

Don’t miss out on our Family-In-Service Night, our next Wednesday Roots Night, in partnership with Solid Rock! We are excited about this community outreach event that we are hosting, here at MGCB, for Solid Rock and local community families. There will be no regular Wednesday Roots Night programming, for the exception of the Adult Choir, everyone will participate and serve together during “The Big Drop” event. Bring your family, friends and neighbors for this fall fun night! We’ll end the evening dropping (and smashing!) some big pumpkins from a firetruck ladder and talk about what it means to drop everything (get it?!) and follow Jesus! Solid Rock and the Witness Commission are asking that all participants register in advance to help with food numbers. You can do that here: https://www.mgcb.org/events/the-big-drop/2025-11-05

This week you’ll find the latest copy of the church newsletter in your family mailbox, if you’re missing this church publication, you can always access it on the website or reach out to Rhonda in the church office to be put on the list for a print copy. Congregational Business Meeting packets are also out for your access. Make sure you take time to review the reports and proposed budget before our Congregational Business Meeting on Wednesday, November 12th. Childcare will be provided.

This week we hope to wrap-up the final touches on the Youth Wing renovation on the third floor. This has been a long overdue project and with the help of many willing youth parents and some generous donors we were able to refresh and liven up the Youth Wing for our teens. Go up and check it out! You’ll take notice of the Youth Roots Truths making a prominent appearance in the hallway, just like they do in the Kid’s Wing!

The last thing I’ll remind you of is the Pray for Me Campaign. Many of you willingly signed up to be a Prayer Champion for one of our Roots Kids after we shared about the importance of the church family and community during our Family Ministry Sunday. If you signed up to be a Prayer Champion, but did not specify if you’d like one of the Prayer Guides, I dropped a reminder in your mailbox to submit your order if you’re interested. We’re suggesting a $10 donation towards those books. The book isn’t mandatory to be a Prayer Champion, but it will be a helpful tool. I’ll also be adding a weekly prayer prompt from those guides to the bottom of my weekly email in the coming weeks.

What I’M Learning This Week: Sharing what I’m reading and listening to lately

Stealing this from someone today… It was a helpful encouragement to me today, maybe to you too!

“Love, joy, peace. For some of us, peace is the Fruit of the Spirit that is most difficult to attain. From worry and stress about work or finances to anxiety about our kids and their futures, there is so much in this world that wants to steal our peace.

I think this is why peace is mentioned so many times throughout Scripture — over 400! It’s also why Jesus Himself said, Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. … Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid (John 14:27). He knows our struggles and is here to help us look past them to Him, the God of peace itself.

The cool thing is, if we want this peace, we have only to ask. As Paul says in Philippians 4:6: Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.

So, whether it’s us or our kids who are struggling against fear and anxiety, when we seek, and model how to seek, the God of peace, and entrust every worry to Him, He will give us the peace we desire, and that peace, the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard [our] hearts and [our] minds in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7).”
