Ruth and I are heading west today for a big weekend. We are meeting old friends from the first church I served in Martinsburg, PA for lunch today. Rusty and Alice Kensinger were like adopted parents to Ruth and I during our time in Martinsburg and they just celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. We are spending tonight with my sister and her family in Zelienople, PA. Tomorrow is Ruth’s family reunion in Butler, PA. We will head home Sunday and will be meeting Pastor Ron and Ann Miller for lunch. They were with us in seminary in Kentucky and we have remained friends since. Ron just retired after 40+ years as Lutheran pastor. I will be back in the office on Monday.

This week I was able to meet with a few of our commissions as well as be at the church board meeting. Highlights from the church board meeting should be in the bulletin. I had new members class on Wednesday evening. Yesterday, Ruth and I were able to attend the Oaks Event at the Watch and Clock Museum in Columbia followed by lunch together. It was a great outing and so glad we could participate.

On Monday this week, my parents celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary. I posted their pictures on Facebook to recognize the milestone.

Ruth and I are so glad we are closer to them to help them in various ways. Thanks as well to so many of you who help others often without anyone really knowing. That’s what it means to be a servant for the Lord - we simply become the hands and feet of Jesus!

Ruth was to see the foot doctor yesterday as she is still having issues with her foot.  We are trying different things to get her toes to function as they should. We have a follow-up with another physician in two weeks. We were also able to visit Carolyn Wenger as she continues her rehabilitation from hip surgery at Brethren Village.

This Sunday, Pastor Mary Etta is preaching from Genesis 22 a message entitled, “The Test.” This is another great, but in some ways troubling story in Genesis. Last week we were blessed as Pastor Rita and her cousin Shawn provided the music in both services. I know that you will be blessed again this week as we gather in worship of our great God.

With the second half of July beginning, it is hard to believe how fast the summer goes. For me the winter months drag on forever, but summer goes so fast. In another month, we will be focused on back-to-school and looking forward to the start of football and of course the Solanco Fair. Blessings are ahead for us for sure, but don’t miss the blessings God has for you right now.

Have a great summer weekend. Come to worship on Sunday in expectation of being blessed. Know that you are loved by God. Remember you are loved and valued as a part of His church at Mechanic Grove. Be blessed as you worship together and give God all your heart’s praise. Psalm 89:1 says, “I will sing of the Lord’s great love forever; with my mouth I will make your faithfulness known through all generations.” And so remember, it is Friday…but Sunday’s coming!
